Book titles go rock-and-roll freaky
You love books. That’s a given: It’s why you’re reading a blog called Cuppa Joad, right? But what about music? Are you a music junkie/aficionado/snob? Do you like to listen as much as you’re rabid to read?
If so, you’ll enjoy Booking Bands, the addictive, amusing, clever contest that invited readers to pair the titles of books with the names of bands. The result is a great-big list of literary-slash-rock creativeness that is practically guaranteed to make you smile. In fact, I promise that you’ll grin at at least one entry.
The brainchild of the folks at Coudal Partners (who knew a design firm could be so entertaining?), Booking Bands runs the gamut. Start with a diverse sampling of literature—books ranging from the quirky Even Cowgirls Get the Blues to the classic The Brothers Karamazov to the perfect Horton Hears a Who—and what do you end up with? How about “Even Cowboy Junkies Get the Blues,” “The Chemical Brothers Karamazov,” and (my favorite) “Horton Hears The Who.”
Like I mentioned, this was a contest. It’s over now, but click over to check out the winners. But beware: You may soon be sticking book titles and band names in your mental Cuisinart and flipping the switch to come up with hybrids of your own. Here are a few I invented: “Indigo Girls, Interrupted,” “Tears for the Sum of All Fears,” and “Patty Griffin & Sabine.”
